We're In The Business Of Building Brains

A team of scientists from the University of Southern California is researching the possibility of one day having a manufactored brain.
"At this point we still don't know if building a synthetic brain is feasible. It may take decades to realize anything close to the human brain.." Professor Alice Parker states.
The problem is not emulating the parts of the brain; that much of the universe we know, it's the massive task to imitate brain cells and their connection to one another. So far, the scientists have created mathematical models that accurately reproduce the connections of all the neurons and also demonstrate how the connections allow these neurons to communicate with each other. But equations are just one dimenstional models that do not learn through experience or adapt to changes in their environment the way that real neurons do.
"It's a non-linear phenomenon and almost impossible to model, but that's what we're attempting to do," Parker said.
The intelligence that an animal is capable of creating its own brain is remarkable; especially the human brain. I thought my physics class was hard. No it is.
