Intel Pulls Out

Intel, the computer chip corp., and OLPC: One Laptop Per Child, joined forces earlier this year and made it their mission to deliver a computer to every child in a poverty stricken country. But alas, some partnerships were never meant to be even with the heartful intention to rescue billions of children from an almost guaranteed future of poverty.
"We are still very much in alignment with the mission and objective of OLPC," stated Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy. "We wish them well but because of a philosophical impasse we left their board of directors."
Intel detached from the non-profit group after OLPC insisted that the corp. abandon its own low-cost laptop, the Classmate PC. One Laptop Per Child demanded that Intel commit itself exclusively to the organization's XO laptops (shown in the photo above.) They accuse Intel of violating their pact together because Intel has licensed technology to a Taiwan company that makes Classmate PC laptops. And the Classmate PC competes with OLPC's low costing XO.
"We at OLPC have been disappointed that Intel did not deliver on any of the promises they made when they joined OLPC. While we were hopeful for a positive, collaborative relationship, it never materialized."
I was more shocked to find this out then waking up this morning to 50 degree weather; more shocked even then Britney Spears latest hold up in her home. I was really rooting for this organization to work. I can't believe that OLPC will actually have an issue over mistrust affect their entire program. Source.
