The honeybee is not only vital to us in the natural world; we also rely on them to help improve our technology blunders. According to new research from the Georgia Institute of Technology, the swarm intelligence of organized bees can also be used to improve the efficiency of Internet servers faced with no vital command. The bee dance-inspired communications system helps Internet servers that would typically be dedicated solely to one task move between tasks as needed. This reduced the chance that a Web site could become overwhelmed with requests and obstruct potential users and customers by 25%. Amazing.
